We asked Kathleen: What’s the one piece of style advice you give to new moms?

"You've probably heard the saying, ‘It takes nine months to carry the baby and nine months (or more) to shed the weight.’ That means being kind to yourself and wearing what feels comfortable those first few postpartum days, weeks or months!"

"I recommend investing in wardrobe essentials like a few pairs of high-waisted underwear—maybe not cute, but definitely help in the confidence department. Both Yummie & Rosie Pope have good options. Also, a pair of good-fitting, quality denim in your postpartum (read: not pre-baby) size. I made the mistake of wearing maternity jeans far too long after I gave birth, because I assumed I’d be back into my old jeans in no time (wrong!). Choose a high-waisted style with good stretch like this pair from Mother. And if all else fails, try Rent the Runway, which lets you look and feel put-together without investing in transitional sizes for the long haul.”
